Default Engine compartment wire routing

I've always said putting just about anything back together is just like a jigsaw puzzle - every piece has its place. Well, that just doesn't quite apply to the wiring, at least not in these cars. If someone remembers any threads that had engine compartment pictures, I sure would appreciate being pointed in their direction. I'm not asking anyone (at least not yet!) to go take pics of theirs; I'd prefer to do as much of the leg work as I can at this point.

I've got the assembly manual but it's not that clear in the case of the 65 with A/C. I'm especially interested in the harness that goes across the firewall from the back of the fuse panel that connects to the starter & compressor, etc. That along with the other wires that come through the firewall from the recess around the wiper motor. Plus I have 2 clips that are/were mounted with screws and I'm fairly certain one goes on the lower bolt for the heater connection panel and holds the starter wires but the other is a mystery right now along with which riveted clips hold which wires.

thanks guys,
Ken

PS One more thing - the assembly manual indicated the positive cable from the battery is to be routed 'under' the parking brake cable. The negative cable obviously goes that way but the riveted clips that held the positive cable previously appear to route it over the PB cable. Again, this is an A/C car with the battery on the driver side.

Ken, e-mail or call Gary K. and see if he will shoot some pics of his '65 and send them to you.

I thought about that but didn't want someone taking pics just for me if there had been some already posted.

I've done some searching on the forum but haven't found anything yet. I'll give it this evening for more responses and then may introduce myself to Gary tomorrow.

Thanks Dave,
Ken

Ken,

Take a road trip and head North and check it out Gary's engine compartment for yourself. It is all original under the the hood so you might get some valuable info. Gary's retired and he would be glad to help out a fellow enthusiast.

I'll leave the "correct" cable placement to others - not interested in "correct", but you are under a misconception about the A-C harness.

The A-C harness is an add on. It does not come though the fuse box connectors, and it requires heater blower wire be disconnected in the engine bay and cut and taped under the dash. It is in the AIM.

Ask more questions if you need help with anything to do with wiring except "correct" placement. I route the wires where it keeps them safe, and I protect the harness in loom casings.

I was thinking about that option too. I have to go up to Ecklers the first part of next week and it might be a good time to go on up to his place. I'll give it some more thought and give him a call if I decide to take the drive.
