That's the radio capacitor, and they're not reproduced - the original was .05 mfd. It's not essential anyway; just tape the connector back on the brown wire - it's hot any time the ignition is on.

the wire broke going into the capacitor......the other end had a plastic connector......which plugged in.....do I just leave the capacitor off and cover the other end off??
What did this capacitor do? Will the radio still work?
The capacitor suppresses radio interference from the car's electrical system. Radio operation will not be noticably affected. (They didn't work all that well to begin with.)
I was looking through a Volunteer Vette catalog recently and realized that they sold the 3 caps behind the dash. They also sell the radio cap you're looking for:
