The VIN is located on the frame rail on the driver side just to the left of where you sit, and also on the kickup in the rear, behind the tire and next to the body mount.
This is the kickup. Don't have measurements but this will give you an idea (S119761)
Can anyone tell me the two VIN locations on a 67 and the actual size of the digits. any pictures???
Here is a fiberglass impression I made of my '67 frame VIN, along the frame rail next to the drivers seat. I used a paint stirrer with a 1/4" of glass filler.
do you know what size the # are?
It is interesting that your VIN # has a 7 before the S and the other posting photo starts with the S. I also noticed the other posting photo had the Letter "I" used for the # 1 where yours is clearly a 1.
It also appears these were not stamped with a stamp Rack as they
do not line up very evenly.
Any one else have any pictures or thoughts on this topic?
Just a note that the one that starts with "S" is a 63, not a 67. PErhaps there was a change between model years.
I'm sure I have more info on this either in Noland Adam's Total REstoration Guide or the Chassis REsto Guide that I have. I'll try to get time later to take a look.
My '64 chassis is still sitting waiting for the painter to finish his work. The VIN stampings are 2.5" from center of the "S" to the center of the last digit and they are 1/4" in height.
Here's another '67 - the impression was made with a segmented "egg-stamper" tool that had eight rotating/indexing die rings on it (which my group supplied to the plants); the "1" character was an "I", just as it was on most engine plant code stamps.
Do you know where one could rent a stamp set up? I replace the driver side rail as it was beyond repair and would like to restamp it before the body goes on.
Dan
The guys that rent engine stamps (same size and font) and advertise in Hemmings and Vette Vues could set one up for you, but that's pretty expensive for a number nobody will ever see. Harbor Freight and Sears have 1/4" stamp sets pretty cheap.
