Recently bought a 65 vert and previous has lost/can't find the key for the spare tire lock, are there any tricks to try before the pry bar.. Thanks
The key for the spare tire lock is the same as the key for the glovebox lock (or at least it is on a 66), if you don't have that key then you could (1) try to pick the lock (they are not usually as hard as you think to do it) or (2) call a locksmith to remove it for you.

Just unbolt the two long bolts at the forward end of the tire carrier. Everything will come off and you can decide what to do with the "bolt" end. The lock goes on a stepped bolt. You could just buy a new bolt and lock with key.
No need for a pry bar. The bracket the lock bolt hangs from is attached to the frame with two bolts - just use a 9/16" socket and extension and remove the two bolts, and the assembly will drop right out. Then you can take it to a locksmith and let him do his thing.

Where would I find one of these things? I'm not too bothered about losing one of the original rally's but would be miffed if someone stole the spare alloy I'm going to fit.
Every Corvette came with a spare tire bolt lock - it fits on the rear support bolt; all the resto parts vendors have them, along with the rubber boot that covers them.
