Default '67 Steering Column........

I am working on a '67 steering column(Non Tele). Both bearings needed replaced so I have it totally apart. The collapsible shaft telescopes in and out. Can anyone tell me what the exact overall length of the shaft from end to end should be? I know that it originally was fixed in place by hot glue or nylon. I want to get it positioned correctly for bearing spacing and preload.

The plastic pins through the two shafts were originally "injected" into the holes; if you move the inner shaft in the outer, at one point the holes in each will align - that's the correct position for both shafts.

Standard (non-adjustable) column - steering shaft overall length 37.49 inches.

Telescoping column - steering shaft overall length (in retracted position) 36.34 inches
- steering shaft overall length (in extended position) 39.345 inches.
