Does anyone know--I have a 65 roadster that is a canidate for a new frame. In searching, I have found that some vendors offer a 68-75 'converted' frame. My 65 is a drum brake car [316 made] and I want to keep it near to stock. The vendor states that some 'pro restoration' shops use these frames. Does anyone know what the conversions are ? The availibility for the 'converted' frame is considerably better than searching for a quality 65 unit. Any imput would be appreciated. Thanks, Don
"Converted" usually means they had to move a few of the body mounts on the frame to fit your year body. 68 and later frames have a difference in the "horns" on the frame, so if you plan to restore your car correctly, you will need to stick with a 65-67 year frame. If you don't care about exactness, a 68 up frame will do, but as the frame years progress, there are more and more subtile differences that have to be corrected. 69+ frames have an extra brace added to stiffen the frame where it rises to go over the rear suspension, this brace hits the corner of the storage compartments behind the seats on the midyears and has to be dealt with. Some later frames have a removeable cross member to facilitate trans removal. I used a 69 frame (I think)(68?) on my 67, and it works just fine, thank you. Cost me $3200.00 6 years ago. Look at "my photos" and you can see a picture of the frame.

I have a C3 frame too. I think it was a home made jobber. body fits fine but there was no provisions made for bumpers so Im going to have to do a little modification so I can attach those. Also if you have side pipes you'll have to drill a hole for the rear mount on the later C3 frames.
I only needed the back half replaced. Got it from Vette Products of Michigan as well. They make the frames for everyone out there. They are fully jig assembled. Every nook and cranny was there and all the holes were correct. Very nice piece.
Wow! I had no idea so many had later frames. Mine is a 79 and needed a fair amount of "adjusting" to fit - but it was relatively straight forward. I had to move the body mounts and graft the rear kick ups from my 64 frame onto the new chassis. Built a nice jig and the body went right on the first time with no problem! I had to adjust the front horns too..
