I may have one, the last time I saw a 56 or 57 dated one sell was in the $2500 range. Does that sound right for an old 3-speed?

I have observed 3 speed trannys on Ebay for a couple of hundred dollars and not selling. I do not think there is much of a demand for the 3 speed units. Good luck with you sale...

Default 1957 Casting numbers

Buzz:

I needcasting numbers:
Main case 3845122
Tailhousing 3737450
Sidecover 3731911

The assembley date on the main case should be prior to S 1 13 (Saginaw Jan 13) located at the upper right rear of the maincase where it joins the tailpiece.
The main case casting date is located near the casting number and should be prior to A 10 7 (Jan 10, 1957) or something near there.

Dates for the tailhousing apparently didn't start until april of 1957.

Default 1957 3 speed Transmission.

Hi jrepoff:

My understanding is that you could get a 3 speed Saginaw (close ratio)transmission for a 1957 Chev passenger car and that it was standard in early 1957 Corvettes. The main case was the same number. The difference is in the tailpiece which has tapped holes for the Corvette floor shifter. $2,500 sounds high to me.
