Harmonic balancer, high HP, 1959 needed
I am rebuilding a 1959, 283 cid, 270hp engine and need the high horsepower harmonic balancer, p/n 3764318. Page 74 of the NCRS Judging Manual has a picture of the low and high horsepower versions. The high hp balancer has a distinct step in the rear and was used on the 290 hp engine also. (The low hp one has a step in the front.)
If you have one to sell, please send me an email to: torashan@satx.rr.com
Thanks,
Tom

Good luck - I've never seen one of these for sale, they are so rare. You might want to break down and just buy the GM replacement part no. 3896904, and take the small point deduction if you are having it judged.

Ditto. I had seen a couple years ago where someone machined down regular balancers (that were otherwise similar in appearance) on a lathe to recreate the rear step, but they rebalanced them afterward just to be safe. Looked fairly close to the real McCoy from head-under-the-hood level and reportedly no failures despite routine flogging at high rpms.

Thank you Viking 427 and Loren 59. I have received two responses from guys who thought they had one but when I sent them the page from the NCRS Judging Manual, they found they did not have the high hp balancer.
I am afraid Paragon's looks like the one on the eBay link, which is not the correct configuration.
Maybe someone out there has one. I'm still hoping.
Thanks,
Tom

Hey guys. I've got one that looks exactly like the high horse 3764318 on page 74 of the 58-60 JM on the engine side, but the front looks like the replacement type with the 3 large D shaped holes vice the three round holes shown on p74. One of the pulley mount holes cuts the part number in half but it looks like 376?068. It's definitely not a cut down one, the sand casting is consistant throughout. Anbody know what it would be? I don't know how to post pics here. Gary

58-61 HI PERF Damper
I figured I would chime in here about those balancers,,I actually sold one on here last year for $1200,, It seems there was 4 different versions of that damper used back then,The face appeared different but they all had the step out the back,,The repro that is being made is just like one of them,,I have a repro right now and it is pretty nice,,Here is a picture of the 4 different originals..
