The center section was out when I received it, so I guess the difference is the axle length as the housings were all the same correct?

How confident are you that this is a Corvette rear end housing, and not a 1957 passenger car housing? They are the same size, but the spring perches sit is a slightly different location in order to change the pinion angle.

Very Confident!
In 1963 I removed the axle and springs from a wrecked 59 Corvette
I have the drive shaft and slip yoke also.
I sold the dated springs to a CF member a few years ago
look at the axle pad and the bolts on the backing plate.

I suspect that this rear end came out of a 57, not a 59. As such, it would not have radius rod brackets.
But I am still wondering if it is a Corvette housing or a passenger car housing?

My error on the thread should have been a 57 not a 59
The axle housing does not have traction bar mounts
54 years ago I did not "speak" Corvette very well and I am sure who ever was with me at the time said it was a wrecked 59 Corvette and that just stayed with me.
You can ask FrankieF what the code on the springs is as he received the rear springs from this axle
The relation of the spring pads to the orientation of the bolts on the backing plates and
E brake shows the pinion angle Vs. level to the ground .
The Corvette had more pinion angle than a passenger car.
Are there any numbers on the drive shaft and trans yoke as I still have those, and it is a
7 1/2" long yoke
Are there any part or ID numbers on the housing or spring hardware?
I will update the thread to a 57 Axle and NOT a 59, thanks for pointing that out!

57 Housing
You can tell just by looking at the picture !! It is definitly a Corvette Housing The Backing Plate Mount holes are Canted Forward ! The Passenger car Back Plate mounting holes were on the same angle as the Spring Perch ! And also the Spring Perches in the Passenger Car were inboard about 2" more than the Corvette !

I do recall that you can "convert" an early (56-57) passenger car housing to a 56-58 Corvette housing by moving the spring perches.
56 to 56.
57 to 57-58.
You could also add the radius rod bracket to cover the later C1s.
