Approximate birthday E56S003714: July 30, 1956
Typical time delay between engine casting date and vehicle assembly date is 2 to 4 weeks (with two weeks being more likely).
Are you sure your VIN is 3714? My records show that car as an original GU engine code car?
0586863 F56GU G 11 6 Corvette E56S003714 240 3S Manual
Notice G 11 6 engine casting date and G 30 6 vehicle assembly date. A 19 day delay.

i haven't been around the car recently to get the actual VIN. when i'm on my PC i never have the exact info handy. I didn't know if anyone would have one close to begin with. I know it was after 3714 and before 3949. so codes between 0586863 and 0614187
the 991 motor sounds about right. i'll email you.

Approximate birthday E56S003949: August 11, 1956
0614187 F56GR Corvette E56S003949 225 3S Manual
I estimate the engine casting date for VIN 03949 to be something around G 24 6 (plus or minus a few days).
So you are looking for a 1956 engine (991 casting number) dated about 2-3 weeks before the vehicle assembly date, so 2-3 weeks between the 12 days of these two cars.
That would be July 11, 1956 and July 24, 1956 (ideally).

OK, just to be clear, are you looking for an engine for a manual transmission car or an automatic transmission car.
Finding an original 56 Corvette engine is going to be tough. I do not know of one anywhere for sale at the moment, and I specialize in 1956 engines surveys.
Creating a correct numbers matching Corvette engine out of a passenger car engine is pretty easy, especially if you want an automatic transmission car.
This has been done lots of times, and has past judging inspection many, many times.
OK, what are you after?

This is too early for what you are looking for. But it is a "991" block with hard to find dual quad "762" heads. This came with a '56 project a number years ago that became a nostalgic gasser. It appears to have been rebuilt but other than what can be seen in the photos I have no knowledge of exactly what has been done to it. Let me know if you have any interest.
