Way to go, Jim!!!
Since those 9's are being so ellusive it's going to be that much cooler when you finally make it there. So was there any more cheating done to try to beat you or did that 'group' not show up this time?
We've got to meet out at HMP or HRP sometime soon. I was out at HMP last night and saw Paul Peace in his blown 67 L88. Wow, what a car!!!! But his is nearing pro-mod cool. Yours is street bad to the bone cool.
Congrats!!!!

Thanks guys....sorry I've been so long responding. MAJOR computer issues. new one is on the way though, so I had to crank up the old tank one from the closet to try and do this!
It was a lot of fun. The rollcage issue is one that always haunts me when racing. I manage to get a few runs in sometimes. During this race I was making suspension changes during the race to try and come closer to dialing it in. Not a smart way to win races..not supposed to mess with them much during the race..but hey it worked!
I'm going to keep tweeking it 'till I can put together some magic runs where I can combine the great 60's with an actual 1/4 mile track. I went to see some buddies yesterday and looked the log books of their record holding/winning 3600 lb Malibu when it was running 9.60-9.70's a couple of years back. Basically same HP (800 or so) but of course the had scienced out suspension, 5500+ converter, 15.0 compression etc etc. They averaged 1.41-1.44 60's (my best is a 1.41 with quite a few 1.46's) and ran 9.65-9.75@137-139 mph depending on weather. I have the MPH advantage (138-140mph) due to a stick trans, so that's no big deal. The sad part was that with similar 60's, they were running 6-teens and low 6.20's in the 1/8th mile. I'm running 6.40's-6.50's. We are at about same MPH at the 1/8th (111-112) so that's close. The real killer is the time between the 60' mark and the 1/8th mile point. back to the slipper clutch again.....I'm having to come out at less than 3500 rpm to make it hook and then it's a HARD pull back up to RPM. I really feel if I can come out at 6000+ and let clutch slip and not fall below 5000 rpm or so it will really help. They felt real comfortable with HP and rest of numbers..just gotta nail that first part.
Of course they just shake their heads when I remind them I'm trying to do this with pump gas, 3.07 gears and only 10.5x28" tires.
We did some close looking at plugs under some instruments. I haven't touched engine tune during all this work regardless of weather. From looking at plugs I knew I was lean. They recomended fattening it up 2-3 jet sizes at least (I'm still running my street cruising tuneup!) Also they weren't too wild about my super hot street plugs. Of course they are great on the street and a little playing, but you could see where I was getting sonme serious heat in them..just on the edge, which is good for power...just not too safe. So I'll stick in my cooler set I have at the house. We could also monitor ground electrode temps with the closer looks. They felt I was *almost* dead on with my timing setting (38*) but recommended I try 1* more with the cooler plugs.
Overall they felt there were some 140-141 mph potential in it and easy 9.70-9.80's if I can make it hook!
See ya,
JIM
