Default 70' Vette question....Front Center Grill?

I removed my front plate to get at my headlamp relays and the center grill was mounted there.

Is it suppose to be like that?

Is there a way to mount it flush like the Left and Rights?

I also noticed black plastic behind the left and right grills - I would think removig them would help with cooling?

Anyone?

I think it is supposed to be inset. Mine is on my 69. Also, I bet the black plastic you're talking about is the headlamp protectors...

That black plastic could be. I thought it was to black out the stuff behind the grills but your probably correct.

The center grille is supposed to be where it is--at least it has been on the ones I've seen. The plastic is the headlamp protectors, keeps rocks from taking out your headlights while retracted. It might help your cooling some, but it might cost you a few headlights. If you're having cooling problems then you might need to look at your radiator...

Its very very easy to move the center grill up, Im going to be doing so on my 72, you get some SS screws and bolts and "move" the grille outward to almost meet the front side grilles....I got that tidbit from Jughead!!

Weren't there plastic spacers on the longer-than-it-should-be screws holding the grill in place for this very purpose? Cars going to states requiring front license plates wouldn't get the spacers, while the rest would, in order to have the front grille mount properly?

I'll have to go check the book.

With the way it mounts, I don't see a way for plastic spacers to work.

Maybe that was on the newer cars.

I did the same thing on my 72 that Jughead did. Looks sooo much better moved forward. I cut spacers from a 1" x 1" aluminum block to sit between the mount bracket & grill. Had to get longer stainless screws though. Sorry...no pics, but looks just like Jugheads grill.
Nice car Jug!!!

I think it looks wayyyyy better, as intended most definitely.

Jughead: A little OT here but what is your ride height front and rear?

I'm at about 26.5" in the front and little over 27 in the rear. The pictured height is a little higher than it is right now. They settled a tad. My sig pic is more accurate, truely 26.5/27

Really? Wow I thought it was about a full inch lower around than that. Good stance on yours.

Jughead, Your grill idea looks great. Did you paint the entire center grill silver? My 71 center grill is all black and looks lost back in there. It doesn't show up.

Mine was black too. Looked too "dingy" for me. I used Krylon "chrome" paint from Walmart.
