Any of you boys with a 70-72 know what the dimensions of the rear compartment are? I cant seem to find this information anywhere, and as I dont have my Vette yet, Im trying to be productive in other ways. If anyone knows o could possibly measure when theyre not busy, it would be greatly appreciated.
That's with the plastic tray in place that stores the pop-out rear window. Removing this and its hardware buys you a couple more inches height. Designing stereo speaker enclosures or looking into a rear-deck mounted luggage rack?
Carl has the right numbers.
There is a ledge on both sides of the compartment where the seat belts bolt to. That area is about 4.5 inches high and about 4 inches wide, which will give a rear compartment width of 44 inches ( +/-) above the seat belt ledge.
I measured to the bottom of the tray and came up with the 11 inch height that Carl had. But what I do not know is how far this extends to the rear of the compartment.
I used this ledge to mount a bracket across to hold my speakers. This is on a 73 without the popout window ledge.
There is tray under the rear window that will store the pop out window. The T-Tops fit on the floor of the rear compartment, and they will overlap each other. Make sure you have the vinyl bags, or other material so that they do not scratch.
On my 73 I raised the speaker platform off of the rear compartment so that the T-Tops would fit under the speakers.
