Last night on "Rides", GM had a "King of Bling" contest. Most entries were Hummers and like vehicles with huge wheels, lots of chrome and massive sound systems. They also modified a late 60's Lincoln Continental with a lowered chassis, oversize wheels, fiberglass dash and door panels, loads of speakers amps TVs etc.
While I can appreciate the technology involved, and I respect any one's right to modify their rides as they see fit, I just can't get turned on by it. Especially the bondo-ed shiny red fiberglass panels they made for the Lincoln I thought looked like
Maybe I’m getting too old. Just wondered what you guys thought.
I agree with you. I really dislike all the "bling" cars. I think most cars look pretty good they way they are. Third world types rarely add anything good to a car's looks.
I saw a Vette at a car show in DC in March. It had a chromed rear spring, chromed shocks, claipers and ROTORS.
Not even driveable.
I am a fan of chrome but what is the point of crap that isn't functional???????????
Why not dip the whole damm car in chrome and get it over with!
I don't think fiberglass will take chrome plating? But I get your message about not being able to drive the chromed out cars. I wonder if he does not drive it does he then save from having to fix it all the time like us that do drive?
I watched that episode too. I have a question, Did anyone pay attention to the type of material they were using when they painted the fiberglass resin on it? I can't remember, Help the elderly out

It was some type of terry cloth material. They bonded and stapled it onto the wooden frame they built. Then they soaked it with resin, providing a foundation for layers of "Kitty Hair" filler and 2 layers of bondo. Are you going to build a new dash for your Vette? Say it ain't so.

I recently purchase some DVD from http://www.caraudiohelp.com
They tell all different type of material you can use and go into great detail of where to get the tools and materials. Many street rodders use these techniques for door panel, consul, etc. some paint and some cover it in Leather. It can be tasteful.
