I'm preparing to install a 1.0 DIN CD player (rectangular shape - typical of most units) in my 71 and I'm trying to find the shaped bezel piece that allows me to install the cd unit in the face of my OE center console bezel for a neat appearance.
I ordered the complete gauage assembly precut and with a DIN bezel installed from Corvette Central. Very pricey at $250. I needed to replace the whole assembly. There is a place to purchase just the bezel and cut you existing one, I'll check for the book mark when I get home.
I cut my bezel and added one of these http://www.millionbuy.com/aifp306.html its not the best out there but its the cheapest. It gets the job done for now.You know how it goes You get what you pay for. Here are some before and after pics:
I have just done this....I dreaded it, but, it was easier than I thought...
Here are some pics...I used a Dremel...and, it took about 40 min...I needed 4 hands. two to hold the bezel on cloth so it doesn't get scratched, and to tunn it to the best angle, and, two to hold the Dremel...used the cutter and the sander...
Here's the bezel (bad pic, really) cut out..the horizontal cut is to the outside radius of the original bezel...the vertical cut is hardly any...it is more a 'sanding' on the top and bottom... This is the cut bezel with the trim and the stereo in place... Here's a side view showing the bezel and the stereo and the trim mated together...

I went ahead and ordered one bezel from MillionBuy. We will see how it turns out. With shipping it was $12.17. So not a big deal if it doesn't work too well. Either way, I never listen to the radio in mine much anyway. I can't hear it with the top down.

I recently bought one of these too. It's shape looks OK, but the molding/injection process leaves a bit to be desired. Mine is not completely filled in several spots on the front which has created darker depression "lines" near the outer edges on the front.
The darker/blacker "lines" on the front are actually slighty depressed from the rest of the surface. As shown on the back, the area that needs to be removed for a typical DIN head unit is already pre defined. The down side is the "depressed" area on the front is outside this cutout area so they will still show after install. However depending upon the faceplate bezel provided with your head unit, this might cover the "defects". We shall see.
Interesting that the package says "American International manufactures hundreds of factory quality autosound stereo installation products and related accessories. We believe our products are the finest available anywhere".
I'd have to take issue w/these statements based upon the quality of mine. However perhaps I just got a bad one. I guess Eddie 70 can let me know.
All in all it is functional but as usual, you don't always get what you pay for but you seldom get what you don't pay for.
The $65 metal piece has two threaded studs projecting from the back that the $9 plastic piece does not have. I assume these are to mount the CD head unit to the bezel.
If I use the plastic piece without the studs, how does the CD unit mount? What prevents it from moving around?
