Default fiberglass experts

Do we have any experts with fiberglass here on this forum? I know a guy who is elderly and retired who wants to sell me his corvette fiberglass molds. He has mostly hood molds [including the l-88]. I haven't been over to see the entire collection, but he is willing to sell them pretty reasonable. My only problem is I know nothing about fiberglass layup. However I'm trying to help this guy out disposing of them. I also have an ulterior motive of getting me an l-88 hood made from the mold[s] in the process. Anybody interested pm me. The molds are located in the midwest.

Be carefull, molds do not have an unlimited life span...they are good for X amount panels, after that...scrap time

[one is on order but won't be here for a week.] However that being said I can get those that I take with my Cannon 35 developed and put on a disc for a few bucks at wally world and will post them later this week. It is going to look like a barn find as he has partial bodies bumpers etc laying around his yard. He told me he ran this business for years, but he said the bottom more or less fell out of it for him 10 years ago. He said demand dried up for a lot of it then. He has c3 and c2 and c5 stuff. He is elderly now and is a member of the hoveround crowd now so his fiberglass layup days are over.

I used to work in a factory that did layup and finishing work on fiberglass truck/rv/watercraft/shower parts. I know a little, but far from an expert.

Why would you want molds if you know nothing about them? You sound like some of these dudes who go tearing stuff apart or want to paint stuff and don't have a clue as to what to do after they start something.

Try reading the first post. I said I was going to help this fellow get rid of his molds. I thought maybe somebody with the expertise to use them would be interested in buying them. Along the way I would get the new owner to make me a hood off of the molds. I am not going to do this myself. Sounds like you got some issues if you think I'm crazy.

hmm...Did you get pics of the mold surfaces? If they have been outside for a long time they could be wasted. but they can be retooled, alot of effort required. You said he had C-5 molds? I would be interested as I am planning to build C-5 molds for carbon fiber race parts..Let me know what he wants to do with them.
Lets see, when are the Topeka scca nationals? Good excuse to go!

Default c5

The latest stuff he had was c4 stuff. I got a copy of his catalog of fiberglass parts, [from when he had his business] and he lost most of his molds to a building fire. What he has left is mostly hood molds. This is a shot of inside an l-88 hood mold. He had several types of that particular hood as the early one was shorter due to the pop up wipers while the later one was longer. I might have said c5 in a previous post, but it was based on a bumper section [rear piece] I seen laying in the yard that I thought was off of a c5.
