I got in this discussion at work the other day about the fastest American Made production car. It came down to a Vette and an AC Cobra. Does anyone have any stats on the fastest vette ever produced?
The fastest (top speed) Vette of all times is the new Z06, but the quickest was by far the '69 ZL1..There was no overdrive tranny available in '69 and therefore the top speed wasn't all that fast.
I once read an article that they raced a ZL-1 with 4.56 gears and slicks on the 1/4 mile and the car ran 10.90's... I doubt that the new Z06 is capable of 10's in the 1/4 mile, even with slicks..
Firstly the corvette is so many more things other than a pure race car, whereas the AC Cobra was designed from the ground up to be nothing but.
If you are going to start talking about new cars, such as the Z06, rather than just classics, what about viper's? (I hear the lynch mob gathering already for such a heresy!!!!)

Quickest documented ZL-1 was a 10.60 @ 132 by Motor Trend in Oct 69. Second quickest was a 10.89 @ 130 on the same car by the same magazine. I guess that pretty much seals the quickest arguement for now (and maybe the most powerful). I know there were only 2 made, but geez. BTW, the other one was a 4 speed that ran a 12.1 by Car Life magazine. On 1969 tires.
