i hate to say it but there is no way for us to know what rpm each gear is without knowing the ratio for each gear in the transmission and the gearing of the rearend but if everything is stock im sure someone out there knows the specs and can tell you gl and my advise to you would be to get a new tach if you run the car to the red line like it sounds you saying.

who ever really looks at the tach? Just kidding. I hardly ever do. I can just "feel" when she wants to shift. usually on a stock 350 she'll level off and not have much "go" to it at around 4-4.5k or so. But ultimately you'll need the rear gear for "mph" suggestions.
Just listenin's great advice unless you're pushing it really hard, like it sounds like you want to do. I sure wouldn't depend on MPH to decide when I was hitting redline. Get a tach & some peace of mind--the kind you mount on the column are relatively easy to install and not really that expensive.
Do what The others have said. Buy a cheap electronic tach an bolt it to your column. You'll have two hours (max) and $50 invested. The peace of mind is priceless.
kinda what I thought cept was afraid I'd get flamed for say so. I never use the tach in my truck its a feel sound thing if you cant figure it out buy a auto trans ....
Well, if I understood right, he wasn't saying he didn't know when to shift under normal driving conditions, he was worried about redlines. I don't blame him for not wanting to trust instinct to tell him when to shift if he's contemplating pushing the car to its limits. Then again, I wouldn't be eyeballing no factory tach stuck back in the dash for that. You need an eye-level tach with a shift light if you're seriously pushing the redline, IMHO.
