someone gave me free chrome side pipes and there a little rusty. i was just wondering what way worked the best. like alumnium foil and windex
I've always used chrome polish to get rust off. However, I'm not 100% sure that it is best. But if you got them free, you shouldn't worry and it will clean them up pretty well.
I always liked the No. 7 chrome polish.
It works great on my 72 (nothing better then shiny bumpers!).
If that doesn't work, I've used the Wizards metal polish, which is kind of like an SOS pad except instead of soap, they use a type of wax product. But I've found that that works better on aluminum and stainless steel rather then show chrome.

i have done this alot on the british sports car i have restored...everthing the other guys has said will work however once its rusted/pitted through there is not much you can do....
someone already mentioned it but....trust me for surface rust sos pads clean it like no other then follow up with some polish works great.
I've been using SOS and Brillo on my chrome for over 30 years. Only on chrome. DO "NOT" use it on ALUM. It's the best. I do all the chrome on my Harly with it.
Wenol (red & blue), best chrome polish I have used. Corvette Central carries it.
i was gonna use these first becuase i have them laying in my garage. i was think steel wool or 200 grit wet sand then polish. the car is not at my house and after school i have alot of time . im glad i have alot of time because i only have a dremel to polish them with
