Default shift console paint type

Hello,
I am in the process of redoing the interior on my 72.
I want to paint the shift console, and would like to know what paint type is used.

flat black
semi flat black
satin black
semi gloss black
gloss black

Right now I am thinking it is the satin black sheen that is used.

Your opinon on the type of sheen would be appreciated.

Marhyde's Black Satin...looks awesome in my '70. This is what one of the restorer C3 books says to use, so I used it and am very happy.

Is the entire console plate the same shade of black? I noticed that the ash tray lid and the shifter sequence plate appear to be more glossy than the area surrounding the rest of the console plate (i.e., the textured part). How did you paint your's? All one color?

Same here. Been with me for around 4 years or so. Needs a little touch up but still looks fine and beats buying a new one.

It looks like its either semi gloss, or satin.
I think that I will paint some spare parts I have in each color, and then use it against my console to see what looks best.

Thanks for the tips and the photos of what this can look like after its done.

Jughead thanks for the post. It reminded me that I need to replace the shifter boot as long as the console plate is out of the car.
