I'm looking for a good place to get my new engine built. I have specific parts in mind, and I'm not finding any crate engines with the combo I want. Does anyone know of a place that will do a custom build up for a good price, and a place that does really good work.
if at all possible, in the houston area would be great.
Matt,
I would seriously reconsider a crate engine. GM performance parts seems to be the way to go. In the long run you will save money, save time, have a warranty. Also GM is just releasing the LS7 crate engine.
I personally had great experience with AR Racing in Virginia... I already bought the 2nd engine from them..
The only thing that you'll have to consider is that the expected waiting time for the engine will be several months.. I waited 8 months for my current engine and it seems to be well worth the wait... The engine should get me well into the 10's at the drag strip... (11.05 with the hardtop flying off was the best so far)

I wonder if this hardtop off situation was just a ploy to reduce 1/4 mile time by ejecting body parts as you went down the strip to reduce your car's weight.

Anybody ever purchase from these guys? What were your thoughts/experiences? Any reasons why i shouldn't buy from these guys? I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, just seemed like a good place to ask

here is the their url. http://www.tandlengines.com/index.html
they are building a 383 stroker for me. Lloyd McLeary the owner is a great guy to work with. I will be picking up my engine on May 9th.
Tell Lloyd, I referred you.
Larry
Autocenter sells crate motors in Dallas, TX. Their prices are competitive and I've heard a few decent things about them on the Forum. They sell GM crate motors.

Well, the drag from not having the top ejected actually costs you more than I'd gain from the lost weight.. My hardtop is pretty light.. It doesn't even have 50 lbs..
Like gransport, I too have had good experience with AR racing in Virginia.bought my 383/440 from the, last Sept....bout 1000 miles so far with quite a few 6000 rpm runs.great motor-good luck
