I will be replacing my door hinges. I hesitate to go with 'rebuilt' ones - can you buy new - any advice?
My reaosn for hesitation is that years ago I bought the S hook to rebuild mine - never really worked perfectly. Also - on my 72 Monte Carlo I used rebuilt ones and I really am not happy with those.

There are usually two items you normally replace on a door hinge.
1. The "S" hook which puts the so called hesitation between the open and closed position.
2. The pin and bushing due to the sage or wear re the alignment or so call up and down movement of the door.
These 2 items are replaced due to normal wear and tear. If replaced properly and before excessive wear occures it should bring it back to it's normal operating condition. If your not satisfied with the results then rebuild should be fine. If your having problems with your "S" hook then maybe it was installed incorrectly. There are various links to aid you in the proper install.
Thanks guys - I am really looking forward to working on the car - although the time is hard to find, I know I will be more patient - as now the car does not HAVE to be running for Friday night.... Also - I have a little bit of cash (credit cards) to help me out and I also have the countertop/workspace.
