Still chasing bugs in my 79 L-82. On three occasions I have heard a clanging noise coming from the rear end. The only times I hear this noise is, after I have been driving hard, then making a slow turn. For example, exiting a freeway onto a off ramp and taking a left or right turn at a stop light. In one of the Corvette books I bought said that one of common problems with the Corvette positract rear end is that the lube wears out ??? Has anyone else experienced this problem? Also, what is the feeling about the synthic rear end oil and positract additives?
Once thanks again thanks for the advice. Is kind of like you guys are all hanging out in my garage, except you don’t borrow my tools, drink my beer, or drool over my 19 year old Swedish wife.
Posi clutch chatter is a common problem/occurence with Eaton clutch/spring carriers. 10 or 12 bolts all do it deending on the spring rates used. Your best option is to get a suction gun and remove the old oil, add 2 bottles of GM additive and 90 wt gear oil. Do figure 8's in a parking lot and see if that solves yor problem. If not, then you'll either have to live with it or drop the differential and "tune" the posi with new clutches and shims, that will eliminate the chatter.
If you need help let me know.

I agree with Gary. I had a 79 that would chatter on turning. I wound up buying a couple of quarts of the cheaper stuff at Autozone and a couple of Mobil 1. I also got a couple of small bottles of additive. I pulled the old gear oil out and added the cheaper stuff and drove the vette around the block a few times. Brought the car back home and pulled that gear oil out. Put the additive in and filled with Mobil 1. Never had any problems again with that rear diff.
