I took the Q-Jet apart, did a preclean and soaked it in carb degreaser for over 74 hours and still isn't as clean as it should be. Has anyone else had this problem? I rechecked the container and it specifically stated it was also for carbs.

Thanks
clean and looking good are two different things....are you saying its not clean , or are you saying you don't like how it looks?
Hi bobs77vet, I'm saying that it doesn't come out clean. I'm not to concerned about the cosmetics of the casting although I figured that would end up in better condition as the carb got cleaned. I just spent about 1/2 hour with a small toothbrush going over the inside of the carb and found an improvement. I think I need to do this about twice a day. I'm gonna leave it for another 48 hours and take my chances. I still think that it's excessive amount of time to leave a carb in degreaser.
What kind of degreaser are you using? I've never had a problem with B9 Chemtool -- aside from the fact that it stinks. You might want to try it if that's not what you're using...

try a different cleaner....i can tell you that there is stuff out there that works really well.....CRC brake cleaner is my favorite....it evaporates really fast so you need to do your cleaning quickly.....i would not want to clean delicate rubber parts with it though
Thanks page62 & bobs77vet, your probably right, it must be the carb degreaser itself. It cost me $20. and I'm using it now and can't return it so I'll take your advice and try the CRC or B9 Chemtool next time.

I am planning to rebuild my Q-Jet this weekend and just purchased a gallon of the NAPA Mac's 6401 Carburator Cleaner. Is this the same product you are having difficulty with?
OPEN QUESTION: Does anyone have any experience with the NAPA product I mentioned above?
You should be using a carb bath, not degreaser. Napa auto can help you out! I would see if that degreaser is cutting the grease? shoot some carb cleaner on it to see how much cleaner it will get? Some carb baths and cleaner have been attacked by the EPA, and are not as effective. I have had good luck with the Napa product. Hope this helps Can you say Holley!
