I have a 77 L-82 350. When it gets really hot outside and the car get hot it dies. It doesn't seem to be over heating and it restarts after about 1/2 hour of cooling. I've taken it to my shop and they can't find anything wrong with it (and it wont do it when they test it, naturally) and it doesn't happen all the time. Any ideas what may be causing this?
When it dies next time, pull a plug wire and stick a small (insulated handle) screwdriver into the end of the plug wire and cross it near something metal. Then have someone crank the engine while you check to see if you have spark. If there is no spark I would start checking out the coil or the distributor module.
If there is spark present, take off the air cleaner lid, look down the throat of the carb, pump the throttle a couple times. See if there is fuel being squirted down the carb. If not then you are probably having a vapor lock problem.
This is where I would begin troubleshooting.
