Default Tire Choice

Until I buy new wheels (which I do not want to do) or modify the rear end (which I will do eventually) I am stuck with 295/50-15 tires. I have gone through a set of BFG Radial T/As and although they are good tires, I want more strait line traction. Drag radials are not available in a size that will either fit the space (until modified) or my wheel width (10"). Here are my only choices:

Dunlop GT Qualifier T

Firestone Firehawk Indy 500

Goodyear Eagle GT

Yokohama Avid S/T

According to the Tire Rack reviews, the Firestone has the best traction.

Anybody out there have experience with any of these tires?

Firestone Indy's are what I have and I like them a lot. I can not comment on traction too much with my mostly stock Vette.

I have the Firehawk Indy's 255/60/15 and they grip very well.

I've run both the Goodyear and Yokohama Avid ST. I find the AVID ST superior to Goodyear in wear and wet weather traction.

I am going to try the Yoko's as I am going to be doing alot of driving this summer - Toronto to SF/LA and really want some good rubber under the vette incase of rain. I have 245 T/A's on now and they are without a doubt the worst tire I have ever driven on.

I put them on my Vette 3 years ago for 7000 mile crosscountry road trip Calif/Virginia and back.Hit heavy rain returning thru Bowling Green and they performed very good in the wet. They wear good to.

Look into the pirelli scorpion zero's. I don't know if they come that wide, but its the tire i'm getting when I replace mine. Its the highest performance tire I know of that comes in a 15'' size. It has a lower tread rating (stickier), and has higher speed rating (V-rated to 149mph) than all the tires you listed. Check it out!

You can get 255-60-15's in the Pirelli Scorpion. They are a good tire and also have good wet weather traction.I was considering them, but cost was higher and they have to be ordered as few stock them.

Tirerack no longer lists the Pirelli Scorpion Zero but they do have the Kumho Ecsta STX but they are on back order.

I learned just last week Yokohama has reduced production on their Avid ST 245-60-15's. Discount Tire had to order them for me.
The tire rack is a good source for ratings, reviews, and cover most available tires for C3's in the 15" wheel size.

Neither Yokohama or Pirelli sells a 295/50-15.

I just swapped my Radial TAs for Firehawk Indy 500s. They seem to have more traction, although I haven't taken them to the roadcourse yet. (The BFGs would slide pretty good but they didn't give out all at once... they slowly approached the limit, so they were fun to drive on the track. Except that drifting just doesn't make for quick laptimes.)
