Stiffer ride, and not unconfortable considering the improved handling.
When I added stiffer shocks later,I had to remove the rear sway bar to keep the rear end under better control for autocrossing.
There are many after market suspension options available. The ride you get depends on what you add/change.

I had it on 2 of my C3s and 2 didn't have it. Some find the ride too stiff to their liking. I guess it all depends what you are wanting to do with the car. In 80-82, the option cost about $55-$65.
Personally, I preferred the softer ride.

[QUOTE=MotownPaceCar]I have also been wondering if I had this option, it looks like I have seven springs. Does that mean I have it?
The most obvious thing to check is if you have a rear anti-roll bar in a small block car, you PROBABLY have an FE7. I say PROBABLY because I don't have all the parts for all the years memorized. However, this was the case for the 1976 model year. Small block + rear anti-roll bar = FE7. (Among other things mentioned earlier that aren't as obvious.)

Pretty good chance you do. If you can get a copy of the dealers invoice,or find the build sheet you can find out for sure. The dealers invoice is available for your Vette thru Allied Vaughn.
PH: (419)887-6856 or Fax: (419)887-6851.Ask them to send you an order form.It costs $50.00 but your can learn much about your Vette.
Edit:Some guys like me remove the rear sway bar.I did it to loosen up the rear end for autocross. You can check where it mounts and see if the holes exist.

Difficult to count the leafs in the pictures due to the plastic anti-friction spacers between the leafs.(sort of ..blurred) But another check is the width. 2 1/4" is the heavy duty. 2 1/2" wide is standard,as I understand.

By the time FE7 got to 80-82, the spring rates are softer than earlier years and the rear sway bar is slightly smaller.
It still cuts a corner and makes for tight lane changes.
The 82 FE7 set-up, with a larger sidewall 255/60 series tires absorbing some of the road vibrations (compared to todays 35 series etc...), KYB Gas-A-Just shocks, to me the ride is perfect balance for the street.
