LT1 in a C3???

LT1 in a C3???
I have an ’80 L48 with a tired engine. Eventually I was hoping to save a few dollars and eventually get the engine rebuilt with a few extra ponies. I was approached with an interesting proposition. Long story short – I can get a 96 Caprice with an LT1 for (almost) free. The motor has 90K – but not hard miles. I like the idea of a fuel injected motor, but would it fit in a C3? I want to keep the original hood line, so would it fit? I am sure this has been done…can anyone share their experience with it?

I can't answer for sure, as I haven't done it. I am very interested to read if anyone has done this as well. I am thinking I want a C3 and would consider doing the same thing if the motor needed replacing. I am sure it would work, the Lt-1 fits in my 94 Camaro with no problem, and it has a really small engine compartment and the frame to hood space has to be less then almost any older car.
Sidenote, I have a 6 speed, 30+MPG on the Highway and 17+MPG running around town; makes me think this would be a really good idea for C3 as well.
