Default Help me decipher my build sheet. Copy from archives?

So, I have a really ragged, half rotten piece of paper that I am trying to decipher. Top right corner says "Corvette Order Copy". It has some adhesive on the back, almost as if it was under the carpet or other place in the interior.

I replaced anything I couldn't read with ??? Can you help me decipher this and help me fill the ??? voids?

Date Received ?0/09/10
Exp. Date of Prod. 00/00/00
Order Number ???230
Zone No. 23
Dealer 052
Model ???7 CORVETTE CONVERT
Paint 1V912AA ?2-52 SUNFLO?

Option number Type Description
????? Trim Black vinyl interior
????? Air Con ?-Season Ai Conditioning
Transistor Ign.
?VGV?AA Axle Rear
Transmission
????? Tires ?70x1??? Lettered???
????? Conv. Top Convertible Top Black
????? Aux. Top Auxiliary Hard Top
????C Radio AM/FM Pushbotton Radio
Comfort & Con
1VG81AA Positraction Axle
1V?08AA Vinly roof cover / black
1VF?2?T Front Springs
1V?32?A Rear Springs
1?????J Power Steering
1VZ??AP Tire ????????ICKER
1VZ03AA Standard ???????? Engine
1VZ?4AA Standard Transmission

I am wondering if you know what Zone 23 was and who dealer 052 was? Also would be intersted in deciphering rear gear ratio.

Was the hard top covered with a vinyl roof? No hardtop with the car unfortunately...

Can one order a build sheet or order sheet copy from the factory archives or a historical society? I know this works only for some marques.

Who can professionally preserve this build sheet before it completely deteriorates?

THANKS!!!!

George

Default Answering some of my own questions

Well, most of you are probably asleep by now, expecially on the right coast.

I did some searching and found this map on a gto site (http://ultimategto.com/art18.htm). I would think a GM dealer is a GM dealer:

So, looks like the car was delivered to northern california. Now I just need to find out who dealer number 052 in that zone is! If any of you have a car from that dealer and know more, let me know!

Based on the 2005 Corvette Black Book, here's what I can fill in. This book doesn't list option numbers so what I have indicated are RPO codes.

Model 19467 CORVETTE CONVERT
Paint 1V912AA 912 Sunflower Yellow

C60 Air Con All-Season Ai Conditioning

C07 Aux. Top Auxiliary Hard Top

U69 Radio AM/FM Pushbotton Radio

Also would be intersted in deciphering rear gear ratio.

ZQ1 was the optional rear axle ratio RPO code. However it doesn't indicate what that ratio was.

Was the hard top covered with a vinyl roof?

Could be ordered w/C08 option, vinyl covering

---------------------------

Hope this helps somewhat.

Good Luck deciphering the rest.

Regards................George

Hey George:

Ok...you'll see in the "quote" section, I added what I believe to be the correct codes based on what you've listed, my data and that of the NCRS 70-72 tech reference guide. NCRS is the authority on issues of originality and production codes among a few other selected Corvette topics. NCRS has a dealer code database and 52 is Warren Briggs Chevrolet in Los Angelos, Ca. The Zone 23 must be a west coast and refers to all GM dealers in a geographical area regardless of automotive product. Here's the link:

http://www.ncrs.org/dealercode/dealerzone.html

This top box references ordering information, dealer information and factory production data. The 70/09/10 is the date the order was received so your date is Sep 10 1970. The Ident No. ???230 is an in factory number assigned by the St Louis plant and accompanies each Corvette's paperwork throughout the plant. The model should read 19467 to indicate a Corvette Convertible.

The codes you see are a combination of the RPO (order codes) and exception control letter (ECL) codes. The ECLs were used to instruct factory workers with specific parts for a particular RPO selection. So for example, your C07 hardtop would include a two letter code (the 52 code shown in the top box next to color-SUNFLO) to instruct workers as to what color to paint the hardtop to match body paint such as 1VC0752. But the code 1VC08AA instructed them to glue a vinyl covering on the hard top. The 1VC07AA was the hardtop selection and I'm guessing but "AA" was base hardtop (no paint). So your Corvette was delivered with a vinyl hardtop and the soft top was black.

Your rear axle is a 3:55 ratio as indictated by the 1VG81AA code. The RPO is G81 (base axle ratio). Base motors with A/C were equipped with 3.36 gear while 3.08 was the economy option. This code would be stamped on the bottom of the carrier if it's still the original.

Your spring code HT indicates a stiffer spring to accommodate the A/C equipment 4 speed but otherwise your Corvette is equipped with base suspension.

There is a fellow who constructs early C3 build sheets from the tatters such as you've described here. He does it privately and advertises through the NCRS Driveline. Drop me a note and I'll pass along his contact information. Another NCRS fellow will exchange dealer code information in exchange for a copy of your build sheet...same drop me a note and I'll share his contact information...hope this helps.

George,

Unfortunately, GM zones and dealerships were not standardized among the various car lines so the Pontiac map that you reference will not give you the correct information.

Zone 23 for Chevrolet vehicles had its corporate office in Oklahoma City, OK. I don't have a reference to Dealer 052, but I can tell you that dealer numbers were originally issued in alphabetical order. What that means is that Dealer 052 originally had a name that most likely started with an "A" or "B".... Now that name might have changed by the time 1971 rolled around, but it is a place to start.

You might want to go to Triple A Enterprise's website... The individual who runs it used to have an email forum to respond to dealer inquiries and I know his database is much bigger than anyone elses.

Good luck!

Regards,

Many thanks for the great info and going through all the trouble helping me decipher the info.

Glad to hear that I have 3.55 gears. It actually turns only about 3000 rpm at an indicated 70 mph, so it is still good for cruising.

I'll be in touch about the additional info, hunt4cleanair!

So, where do I send my build sheet for restoration / preservation? I don't want to laminate it. I have read some article (was it Muscle Car Review?) in which they described a process on how it's done.

As Stan said, Zone 23 was the Oklahoma City, OK. Zone back when your car was built. It's now closed.

It was not Northern California. Chuck
