well this has me really scratching my head saying WTF. replaced the windshield on a 69 convertible, now the trim across the front will not lay down onto the windshield. the mounts or clips that screw into the frame where not changed when the windshield was pulled. the trim peice was sent to the polishers, but is not mangled and i dont see how they could have bent it all the way across. the end header peices were changed with new GM peices while the windshield was out. they appear to be sitting down like they should as far as the screw holes lining up. now with the center header peice on the top the front trim peice really doesnt lay down correctly since it rests against the center top peice. so obviously somethings not right. however with that top header peice removed the front trim peice still will not lay down all the way. the header peices on the ends do not hold it up or interfer with it now, but the front peice still just will not lay down correctly.
any ideas on what is going on? i hope my post can be understood. if not say so and ill try again. the windshield itself i dont think can be the problem because it is the correct replacement windshield, the windshield that was in there was a replacement as well, and theres no spacing the windshield up off the frame. which honestly if that could be done would fix the problem.
well i hoped over to www.corvettefaq.com and what do i find but a windshield install guide. if i read this correctly there are spacers that hold the windshield up off the frame far enough to contact the moldings. the glue and the butyl tape also space the windshield up off the frame right? well the old windshield did not have any spacers lifting it off the frame. the windshield was also installed by a professional, not me.
so where can i get these spacers and the correct butyl tape?
oh and the guide kept referring to the AIM whats that?
I have a 69 coupe that has the windshield out and all parts removed at this time. The top trim piece that mounts to the windshield clips will not fit tight to the windshield, at least it didn't on mine. In coupes the T-top s/s trim fits under that trim on the back side. The blades of that moulding limit its depth into the top windshield frame clips. If it is suppose to fit tight I'd like to know and have this issue addressed on reassembly.
this is the same problem i am having. what i read if its correct is the windshield needs to be spaced up from the frame more. go to www.corvettefaq.com at the bottom there is a link to a windshield install on a 69. i got my info from that.
thanks Majic.
are all C3s this way with the windshield or just the early ones?
Thanks guys, that link made it clear. When my windshield was replaced 20 years ago it was done incorrectly. Guess I will carefully supervise the next installation, but hope they have the required spacer.
