Default Hooker sidepipe installation question

I'm installing some new hooker headers/sidepipes on my '73 along with a fresh engine, and tko600. Has anyone noticed that the header on the driver's side sits lower than the one on the passenger side? I'm comparing the difference to the frame not the body. I'm going to double check motor mounts and everything else on Friday just to make sure everything is right. What has your experience been?

My Hookers have been on the car for many years and they are pretty even side to side.
Could it be that you have the engine rocked toward one side just a little in the engine mounts? A small variance there makes a big difference all the way out at the header collectors.
I have seen that happen before.

Good luck,
SharkPilot

Just crawled out from under my '72 as I am starting a front end rebuild. Gotta say on mine, the pipes to frame gap is pretty much even on both sides.

My passenger side has a litlle more clearance than my drivers. Exact tolerances weren't big with GM in the '70s.

Thanks for checking this out. I'm going to double check my mounts and make sure they are seated correctly. I'll also loosen the header and see if there is any play there.

Does anyone know if you are you able to install these from below after the engine is in?

I installed mine with the engine in. I have a 350 with a 4-speed, so I had to remove the clutch pivot arm that goes between the frame and block, and the rocker panels. Otherwise, just raise the car high enough to snake the headers in from below.....piece of cake!!

That is how I did mine. Had the frame rails about 18" off the ground. Just had remove the clutch linkage, dipstick, and plugs for clearance. Think I also had the starter off at the time as well.

Yes, it is indeed possible to do. I have even removed the left side header with the side pipe still attached. The rear of the car has to be pretty high up in the air but it can be done.
I have installed two different sets of Hooker sidemounts (black and chrome) and my engine has never been removed from the frame.

All the Best,
SharkPilot

Oops... guess I should have read all the way to the bottom. Sorry for the duplication.
