I have 17" TTII on my '70. I run 245/50/17 all the way around. I think these are the perfect size, just the right OD, no rubbing. They are a bit hard to find, I have Dunlop 5000 from the Tire Rack.

Thanks for all the responses. My front suspension kit should be in this weekend so I will take care of all of that first. Once that is complete I will have the car aligned again by bowtie automotives and see where this leaves me with tire situation. If the problem still exists, I will move to the smaller tire setup.

On the '78's and '79's that were ordered with tires of the same outside diameter and width as the tires that you have the factory cut the wheel lip on the forward edge. The cut ran from just forward of the highest point of the opening and ran to the forward lower edge. The forward lower edge was trimmed 3/4 of an inch tapering to 0 at the top of the opening.
You also notice that the responses from folks is that some fit and some don't. I suspect this may be due to some cars being lower than others.
I vote for smaller tires in front.
