When I had stock manifolds, I ordered a 2 1/2 inch system from them. It was made with a short 6 inch section of 2 inch with the flange to mate to the manifolds. At the end of the 2 inch it was welded to fit a 2 1/2 the rest of the way out. I fit the exhaust system up by myself with the car on jackstands. It went on easy and came in four pieces. It also had all the hangers and clamps with it. I went with shorty headers when I rebuilt the motor. This allowed me to get the 2 inch section cut out of the pipes when the flanges were welded up. I got the aluminized exhaust and they still look like they did when I installed them 5 years ago. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
I have a set of Allens 2.5" aluminized pipes on my 73. They made them 2.5" all the way to fit my new 2.5" manifolds. The fit was excellent, just like stock. Joe
Im totally interested in getting some side pipes from Allens. I read a few post in the archives that mentioned the Allens pipes.
This thread has been helpful.
Im trying to decide whether to get aluminised or stainless steel. I know its a personal decision as to whether I spend the extra on the stainless, but Id like to hear some of your thoughts on this.
The aluminised look good - how long does it take usually before they start to rust or look oldish?
Reason I ask is, if I don't like the side exhaust on my car I will sell it, and so if I get aluminised will they look good in like a year?
I've had Allen's Stainless on my '68 convertible, '74 coupe & '75 coupe since 1991. Best move you'll ever make. Great fit, comes apart easily when you need it to You'll never need another exhaust
I have the same system Eddie 70 mentioned on my 68 Roadster. As everyone else has mentioned, the quality, fit, and finish are 1st rate.
Another thing worth mentioning for those looking for some more rumble. Allen sells his syetms with stock-type mufflers. However, he makes the same system with the same muffler canisters, but with fewer baffles. They come stock, medium, and 'loud'. The loud system is VERY similar to flowmasters in internal design. Those are the ones I have an I love 'em. DEFINATE increase in volume and roar (especially at full throttle), but very easy to have a conversation when cruising. Best yet, there's no increase in price. You can't get a semi-performnce exhaust system for less, and it will still fit like stock - right down to the stock hangars.
I plan to buy the same system for my 427 coupe - but will need to adapt to headers.
I emailed him about his side pipes. He responded quite quickly with a number for me to call, which is more than I can say for some companies. and he seemed pretty nice.
Im definetely going to go for a set of Allens side pipes for my vette.
