Default My Keisler 5 speed experience

The Keilser 5 speed install did not go as smooth as I would have liked it but it is in now and I am one happy camper. The tranny is great and shifts smooth as silk. The vibration problem I was having was a loose bolt. On the highway in 5th at 2000RPM I am going 80mph. I can say it is the second best mod I done ( the first reserved for the MiniRat )

I would like to say that prople at Keisler have been top notch in their help and support for me with this project from the owner himself to the sales guys to the tech guys I say thanks alot. I always got through to someone on the phone and they always followed up. They even overnighted parts to me, something I have yet to see another company do.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out. I hope to do this next summer when the budget allows. I'll be dropping in a ZZ383 to spin it.

Glad to hear you are as happy with your tranny as I am mine. I have been driving mine now for around 3000 miles or so and it just keeps getting better. It never fails, if I run into Shafi at Corvette Expo in Knoxville, he always calls me by my name which blows me away. I am well pleased with mine and would do it again.

Wayne, so how much clearance did you wind up with between the output strap yoke caps and the tunnel. I haven't really put the power to mine yet. I have approx 1/16th inch and tied the emergency brake cable back out of the way. As far as I know that is my only issue.

Bob, when I looked at mine clearance was a non issue because I could see it wasn't going to hit the tunnel or parking brake cable, how much room can't remember but less than 1/2 inch I think. I have a "80 maybe there is a bit more room, I do however have the older pre-80 crossmember installed

Wish i could say the same, everything about my experience has been 100% negative, i'm going on my 8th weekend to complete the install.

One problem out of many is it is back on the bench due to it leaks so bad, it was leaving a puddle not a drip. I just put the tailhousing back on after sealing it up the way it should have been done. When i initially slid the tailhousing back the only place there was any permatex was around the bolts, rest of it was clean metal.

Hope yours doesn't leak, seems to be a common problem.

You will get yours in and everything will work out OK, seems like a hassle now, I was bummed out a couple of times, hopefully we will laugh about it later.

Great photos!!

Did the rear rubber plug come out in one piece, or do you have to chop it out? What's the wire bundle at the rear? It's never mentioned in the instructions...

THe rubber plug came out in one piece, a bit of a bear getting out, took me 10 minutes. I taped that wire up, they mention somewhere what it is, could be reverse lockout or reverse lights I can't remember but it is not needed in C3's

I believe the wires coming out of the rear are for electric speedo's.

The pigtail wire/ connector at the top of the rear tail shaft is the neutral safety switch. I chose to use the stock clutch safety switch on my 70 and tied the pigtail up and out of the way. The two prongs coming out of the main body on the left side in the first picture is the backup light switch.

Motorhead.......With bolt did you have loose that caused the vibration. I have a slight vibration and have been blaming it on the driveshaft. Other than that I love my 600 cruize at 2000 RPM instead of 3400.
