Did it get shipped? How far did it get shipped? Would there have been much of a temperature difference between where you are and where it went?
I read an article a while ago talking about cars that had been shipped to a colder climate area and the temperature difference caused the old mutiple-layer acrylic paint to crack. (I don't think it would happen to 2 pac).
Plus as far as im concerned he bought the car its his tough luck.
and they don't look like cracks in the fiberglass, they look like scratches/cracks in the paint.
I sold my 1981 Corvette. Well, the guy e-mailed me telling me that he had found some cracks in the fiberglass that I didn't tell him about. I told him that I never noticed any cracks, and for him to e-mail me some pics. Here are the pics, which he had a quarter sitting by it for reference:
I told him that it just looks like deep scratches. He said that they are cracks in the fiberglass.
Do those look like typical cracks that occur in fiberglass? The only thing that I can think of is that they are just cracks in the paint. Which I guess would have come from the body flexing causing the paint to crack.
So, what do you think? Fiberglass cracks, paint cracks, or scratches?
He asked me for a donation to help fix this, but all that looks like needs to be done is some touchup paint to fill in the cracks.
Sounds to me this fellow who purchased your Corvette doesn't know much about owning a Corvette. The fiberglass on these cars get stress cracks in the body and there isn't much one can do about it. They happen in different areas in the cars body. Maybe he should of purchased a metal car instead because he is really making a useless complaint. Heck your previous Vette is an 81' making it 23 years old. He should be happy it isn't made of metal, it could of had rust coming through the paint. What did he expect? I wouldn't donate a dime to fix it. Didn't he look at the car before he purchased it. If he purchased it on Ebay and couldn't come out to look he should of sent someone to take a look for him.
Never seen stress cracks there. They look like scratches, not the typical "spider web".Another thing, stress cracks tend to originate at "corners",like hood openings, fender openings, etc,on bumpers or where body "tweaks". You can follow them to the corners. These are random scratches,IMO.Just my 2 cents...

He had the chance to look it over when he bought the car. Tough S**t, I would tell him to go fly a kite, You buy a used car as is unless you offer some type of warranty.
Looks like scratches to me too. Did the new owner wax the car? Deep scratches can be more visible if wax dries in them. Either way, he looked the car over in person before taking it, so let him deal with it. It's his car now.

Did he pick up the car in person? I assume he looked it over before he paid you. If so, its his car. What next, a claim against you if a radiator hose blows in the next month?
He came back with an estimate of $1000 to fix it. Hell, I already had over $1000 invested already. What do you think?
The painter most likely will have to paint/match that entire rear side from the break line at door to the rear bumper....if I'm not mistaken... which explains the estimate..
Tell him to take it to Mexico, and get three estimates...

Agree. If he looked the car over before purchase, those scratches are now his! How do you know if he didn't fly through a gutter or drive off a curb? I'm sorry, this guy's way off-base and has no case (hmm? a rhyme? Here's another: "If he drove away, you do not have to pay").
I think you would have noticed the cracks if they had happened during your ownership. He looked at the car, came to get it himself and I think he would have noticed as well. These occured during his ownership, thus his responsibility... Don't give him a dime!
