What do I need to do to replace my distributor ina 80 vet?

Are you having problems with the bolts or pulling it out?

Just unloosen the hold down bolt and move the hold down to the side and lift it out. I would do it with the distributor cap off. Before you unloosen the bolt and pull the distributor out spin the motor over to get the brass striker part of the distributor rotor to face the firewall so that you know where to have the rotor sit on the other distributor when you reinstall it so it drops right in.

I want to replace my distributor I just want to make sure i don't do anything wrong. what is the correct method to make sure everything is lined up coorect when i put the new one in.

If you are not replacing anything else or going to turn the engine over once it is out, then all you have to do is put a mark on the firewall to where the rotor arm is pointing and line the new one up with the rotor in that position and your done.
