Using an acetylene torch.
Do I need to use goggles if I'm only using the acetylene gas and not the Oxygen?

Wow if you use just the acetylene gas you are going to have alot of smoke especially if you are in a building while using it. I never use my acetylene torch without oxygen. What are you using it for anyway? Is it just to heat something up to get something loosened? Goggles are a good idea although I must admit I have used mine to just heat something without using them but I always use a set when welding or brasing. It more dangerous and bad for your eyes using a mig welder with out goggles or a welders helmet.

No oxygen = No heat
I have used "Acetylene only" to soot up an aluminum or copper part prior to annealing with a carburizing flame. Burn the soot off and you have it hot enough to anneal, "soften", the part.

I kinda figured that is what you were going to do. Use a little oxygen with it and you will heat them up faster and it will burn cleaner.

Googles or some type of eye protection is never a bad idea.

And put some goggles on Len, it's not worth the potential long term damage. My eyes are deteriorating enough without me encouraging them!

gotcha guys. I have a hood for the mig welder and goggles for the torch.
The torch goggles are not as dark though.
