Just look for the best condition vette you can find for the best price out there. Don't get hung up on L82 or L48 you can build up the engine anyway you want. And most guys dump the old SB and put in a new 350/350hp SB for less then redoing the old one. The only things you need to deside is whether you want AC, Auto (don't know why anyone would) or pwd windows. Me I found a 79 L48 4spd w/no options. That's the way I wanted it. And it runs like a bear (after some engine mods). Good luck
just build what ever you got for more power.....an L82 is what a 190 HP engine? so what? it may have been top dog in the smog laden mid 70s but now its just an old under powered SBC. don't worry about 2 bolt or 4 bolt mains built what you got if you want more power, you can easily outperform an L82.
L82 vs L48:
forged vs. cast crank
4 vs. 2-bolt main block
'350hp' cam vs '300hp' cam
9:1 vs. 8.5:1 compression
Piston pin clearance slightly greater on L82
230hp vs 190hp
I'm assuming the exhaust was identical on both L48 and L82 (2-1-2). All interior accessories/trim levels were avail on either. Although, I believe L48 was the only T-10, 4-speed equipped, Vette avail with a 350 in '80.
You're kidding aren't you????? The interior has nothing to do with whether you have a L-48 or a L-82. The deluxe interior package could of been ordered with either engine.
