The local Corvette speciality store in town told me there is no aftermarket A/C available for a '72. I found this site http://www.classicautoair.com/perfect-fit.asp which seems to sell one.
Anyone have experience with this system or something similar? It just hit 108 here today - time to get serious about that A/C.

I have Vintage Air in my Street Rod. They have been around for a long time. They will have something for your 72'. I have also heard of Classic Air where you showed your link to. They haven't been around as long as Vintage Air but I am willing to bet they must have a similiar system. Most of the members on the C-2 forum who have put A/C in their C-2 that wasn't equipped with A/C from the factory I know have used Vintage Air. You may also be able to find a wrecked Vette from say 70' to maybe 74' and get all the guts to put the original equipment in your car. I did this job on an old 79' Chevy short bed pickup I still own maybe 10 years ago. I found a 80' Chevy wrecked pickup and gave the fellow $75 for all the A/C parts on the truck before he junked it. I had one truck next to the other and completed the job over the weekend. The only thing I didn't care to use was the original compressor and receiver dryer. Those I replaced with a rebuilt compressor and new receiver dryer and the job came out nice. This job may be more then you want to take on though. Even putting Vintage Air in your car will be some work though unless you are planning to send it out to be done.
Cant you just put the T-tops in the back and drive really fast?! Its getting into the hot season here (yes it does get over 100 in Canada so no comments ) and my 72 wont have AC, hahaha guess Ill find out how much torture Im in for soon enough

That is the norm, but after killing myself in the heat (actually, the car ends up spending the summer in the garage), I figured I'd just do an A/C. While you may get over 100 in Canada we can go 3 months without going under 100 - even at night. Really sucks - but I guess that is the price for 6 months of beautiful winter.
I put an A/C in myself years ago on an Honda CRX. Never again, what a pain in butt. Plus, there is always one seal you don't quite get right and you can never get full vacuum on it. I'll leave this up to the pros.
I did get a message back from Vintage Air - they will have a C3 kit available in about 90 days (just in time for the summer to be almost over!) But at least they have one in the works.

I would go with the one that Classic Air offers. I was reading up on it tonight and they have a 3 yr. warranty on the system. For them to offer that kind of warrranty it must be a good system. Go for it!!!
One quick question. Are you planning on doing this a/c job on your own? Just curious. If not you should check around to see how much it would cost to have this job done. Call Classic Air they may have a installer in your area.

Thanks Fred - I was thinking about going down that route, at least to find out more about the kit. I am not planning on doing his myself. I don't have the equipment for the new type of Freon in these systems, so I'll try to find a shop in the Phoenix area that can do it.
As far as the other post asking about using the existing controls, this kit says it does. But I am curious what controls were in a '72 that had factory air - I may do some part hunting to make it look more 'factory'.

Donger,
I owned a 72' Coupe before the 73' Coupe that I own now. The set up is the same for A/C and heat. Maybe you could find a used part from another Vette out there. This part heat and a/c selector control should be the same for a number of years. In my Street Rod I purchased the whole setup from Vintage air with a Sanden polished compressor. It came with a Vintage Air heat and A/C selector and with its own heater core mounted in the unit for heat and air. You will ownly be purchasing the a/c unit separately. Back during the 90's I paid around a thousand for everything that I needed. Let us know how you make out in case someone else is interested in getting this done.
