they make a high flow (high performance?) stat that is very similar to the Robert Shaw model that is so popular. I prefer the high flow model, because my motto is, "Why settle for a $2.95 part when you can spend $5.95?"
I like the Robertshaw... available at Autozone, at least thats where I got mine.

With the Stant 180, my car never got cool enough to shut my Spal fans off once they came on (195 on/185 off). With the Robert Shaw, the fans will cycle in town and never come on at speeds above 30 mph.
Stant "Super Stat" or Robert Shaw are both good, I always drill a 1/4" diameter hole in my Tstat to prevent air pockets when filling a dry/low cooling system. Vettes are a big enough PITA to get the cooling system roperly filled to begin with so do yourself a favor and drill the 1/4" hole in any Tstat you install in you Vette.
I used to have to go to to stant manufacturing once in a while for a place I used to work for, they have two assembly lines for the thermostats, one line is the premium line and one is the regular, the difference I was told is on the premium line like every 10th stat ( I dont remember the number for sure) is checked out by quality control, and the regular line checks out like every 50th, I heard it is like this about spark plugs, condensers and other car parts in different factories, I have alway used stant but as long as you spend the extra couple bucks on the premium line, one brand is probably as good as another, you need the the thermostat to restrict the flow of antifreeze some to give it time to cool while it is in the radiator,
