I'm running 225/50/17's in the front and 275/50/17's in the rear, I originally had 245/50/17's in the front and they rubbed the control arm at full turn. I probable could have gotten by with 235's but didn't want to go through all the hassel of sending back another set of tires. Wheels are Intro twisted matrix, and tires are Nitto 450. Hope this helps.

I'm switching to a 17" wheel/tire from 15" stock. My stock tires are 255/60-15. The equivalent in 17's are 255/50-17. My stock tires rubbed, but only on hard turns.

I'm trying to fill the wheelwells as much as possible and my calculations indicate a 235/50-17 is slightly smaller than the 255/60-15.

This calculator is what I've been using:

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

The calculator reveals your 275/50-17's are slightly larger than stock and will probably fit nicely at the rear.

P.S. - My car has been lowered, if this matters...

How much did you lower your car and what is the best method of doing so?

Lowered the car about 1" or so. Nothing radical.

I cut the front spring and installed lowering (longer) bolts at the rear spring.

I am running 255 45 17s all the way around and have no rubbing at all. They are 26.1 inches tall. Smaller than stock but they don't rub . I had the 255 50 17s on and they rubbed.

It looks like I'll end up with a larger tire in the rear. Can I go bigger than 255/50-17 or is that pushing it? Dimensionally speaking, it's the same size as I have now (255/60-15).

my rims are 17x8 and i dont think i would go any bigger than 255/50/17 on the rear just cause of the bulge that you would get on that size rim

Would 18's fit under the back fenders? I think they would, but idk.

18's would actually work better on the rear and help to clear the bolt on the spring ends better. im gonna eventually gonna get a set of 18's for the rear of mine some day.

255/50-17 on all four corners. Had to cut the front fenders just a tad to clear during cornering. Rears are fine. I'm lowered, too.

Wow! That's a damn beautiful car. Love the hoops...

When you say "cut the fenders", you're talking about the outer rear piece (it kinda juts out as an extension of the lower trim piece), right?

Thanks!

No, I had to cut the front of the fender lip. About 1/4" had to come off for a length of about 12" (from the bottom). It's not really noticable to anyone but a fanatic. When I get around to having the paint re-done (It's a 10-footer), I'll glass new returns on the lip where I had to remove the old.

Oh, they are Bridgestone Potenza RE-750 tires. They are real sticky and plenty quiet (they don't compete with the sidepipes, anyway).
