76 radiator overflow tank
Should there be "some" coolant in the overflow tank at all times, or only when the engine is about to overheat? Mine stays dry all of the time but was just wondering.

using my 77 as guide, not sure if they are the same or not....my 77 has a radiator cap that allows the coolant to be filled to the top and has an expansion tank that has a cool/hot fill line....mine stays at the cool fill line when cool and rises slightly when hot.....if you have the wrong radiator cap i'm not sure an expansion tank/resorvoir will work properly....

Your tank should have coolant in it. The tank may leak and need replaced. The radiator cap may need to be replaced. The cap should be in the 15-17lb range. You might also check the hose that connects the radiator with the tank to see if it is plugged.

Hmmmm. Mine is always dry. I poured water in it a couple of days ago and it is at the same level. I didn't know there was a special radiator cap. I'll look into the cap. I wonder then if that would contribute to my engine running REALLY hot on the interstate, or just a different issue.
