My name is Dave and I live in NW PA. Just joined and just purchased a 1968 327/350 4 speed covert red in color. All original and numbers matching. Too bad it is red with a white top (overused color imho). Ordered a new frame which is the only thing wrong with it. It was babied however, it was driven in the snow hence the frame rot. Thinking of making it a 383 and adding sidepipes. Always looking for feedback since that is why I joined the forum. Don't want to lower the value but I want something to drive hard. Glad to be a new member.
Since it is a numbers matching car I would just take that motor out and drop in a nice ZZ4 or ZZ383 crate motor. You'd have tons of power and still have your stock motor to put back in if you ever needed to.
Let me figure out how to post pics and I will. I have lots of them.
Regards to changing the motor seems to costly to put a crate motor in it when there is a good block and who would really know if it was a 383.

Well when you figure the cost of having someone build you a 383 shortblock, a good set of Al. heads, and all the other stuff you'll need, the price of a ZZ4 wont look to bad. That's a decision only you can make though.
Welcome to the fourum, I put a 383 crate motor, and a 2004R stage III tranny in mine and kept both the original engine and tranny. I love mine plenty of head snapping power and the great looks of a C-3
Who is a good dealer for crate motors? Should the muncie tranny stay? I think it is the plain old m20 (not HD or close ratio) need to investigate further
Thanks everyone!
Excellent dude! Welcome to the forum. Look forward to hearing more about the adventures with your new vette.
Everyone loves seeing pics on this forum...and with the beauty of the c3vette can you blame them?! The forum members are very supportive..it doesn't seem to matter what condition your vette is in...everyone loves it! (which is a relief, cause who knows what Ill get when my vette finally arrives).
Looks like any other red 68 convertible with rally wheels and white top.
No options other than the hardtop which is cool.
Working on my web site and when I get her up the pics we be on there. Rather work on the vette than the site.
Here is what I do.
1. After I download my photos on my computer I then go to this website and use the browser to find my photo.
2. I then use the browse function to host a photo and create an internet address,
3. I copy the address that has this format:
(IMG)http://tinypic.com/filename
4. I then post it in the Forum message
5. To make sure it will show up I use the PREVIEW POST button at the bottom of the reply thread.
6. If it looks ok, I will then SUBMIT REPLY.
Sidepipes are a great idea - there are stainless Hooker sidepipes available at Summit (can I post the link without breaking forum rules) ??? Most Corvette suppliers only list the chrome, painted or coated versions....
A 383 is what I am thinking about - lots of choices..... from mild to wild.... there is a 454 long block assembled and balanced advertized in the Carcraft magazine... $2800 completely assembled....
spend some time here and get tons of info before you buy ...
