Default 72 underdash fit

Why doesn't the center console (with engine gauges), fit my center A/C vents? With the behind-dash ducting in place, the ducting is too far to one side to allow proper centering of the in-dash center A/C vent. This makes the A/C vent bend/break the center console. The other option is removing the main A/C duct from the main housing behind the passenger side dashpad allowing much of the cool air to move behind the dash instead of on me where it belongs.

Help? It appears my A/C duct is to long? Is there a 2005 fix for this??

Default yeah I know.

I have a 71 that I have repeatedly taken apart. That section doesn't fit real well. I kind of just "make" it fit. Also the bottom of my gage pack doesn't extend low enough and there's a gap between it and the shifter console. I just live it with. I think they were put together cheaper than my 01 Honda, but I still lke the old girl.

I had the same problem with my 75, I just helped it a little so it would fit.

I sorta expected that was the case but wanted to be sure before I started some serious monkeying around under there. Thanks for the inputs. I was wondering if there were reproduction type stuff that had better fit than factory. Afterall, you can't see the stuff behind the dash to see it isn't factory.

thanks for the help.
