I've have gas in my 78 that has been in there for a year while I was building the engine. I want to drain the old stale gas. Is there an easy way to get it out of the tank (drain plug) or a recommendation for removal?
I don't think year-old gas would be a problem. You could try an additive (gas dryer, Stabil, etc.).
To remove, I placed a bucket underneath the fuel sender/fuel supply area and removed the fuel line. Most of the gas drained at that time. Then I removed the sender and just about all the gas drained into the bucket. After removing the tank, there was only a little gas left in the tank. Poured the old gas into the lawn mower and used it.
If you want it out you can check out harbor freight. I bought a small transfer pump for $10-12 that will let you pump or syphon the gas out with no problem. Works great when the mower runs out in the middle of the lawn and you don't want to drive to the store for one gallon.

i'd take it out and mix it in my DD with new gas and put in good stuff.....use a siphon hose use for transferring kerosene, you can get this from a hardware store for about 5$
