From what I've read there's sposed to be a stamped number depicting ratio on diff.case... but no one says exactly where.... I've got two of them still installed on rolling chassis's and can't find them, there's plenty of casting #'s but none stamped that I see, are they under a bracket or what? please help!.... Cliff
The numbers face the ground on the lowest part of the diff. Don't look for anything boldly stamped. I had to get under there and wire brush the crud off, then really look closely. The numbers are faintly engraved into case, not raised. Oh - it doesn't show the ratio, just codes which you can decode to get the ratio.
Codes varied by year. They are listed in several publications including, the NCRS Judging Manual, Corvette by the Numbers, and How to Restore and Modify Your Corvette. If you have the code post it here and I or someone else can look it up.
thanks guys I have two differentials both from 70's one is code cao =3:70 posi the other cav=3:08 posi the book I got at zip, 68-82 resto guide, by Richard Prince had the cao code right but had said the cav was a big block open gear 3:08 I want to thank darryl for looking up the codes in his by the #'s book which had the correct info... It's kind of blurry cause 69 and 70 are blended together, so maybe that's why prince dropped the ball, anyway, I found the codes under the mud and rust...thanks again guys
