Speedo Problem
Hi guys...I have a speedo problem, hoping you can help me out.
Speedo itself works fine, plastic gear seems okay. Problem is the metal gear on the shaft moves back and forth along the shaft as well I can turn it by hand around the shaft without turning the shaft.
When I had someone turn the wheels, to turn the shaft, I could feel the gear move too, but was able to put my finger on it and make it stop while the shaft still turned.
Any help or info would be great.

Are you talking about the gear in the tranny output shaft. If this is the one you can stop with your finger, it sounds like the retainer has fell out or broken. If your car is a manual shift it is not too bad of a fix. Here are a few pics of mine. When the speedo cable froze it broke the ear off the retainer and the gear moved and no speedo for me.
Speedo Gear Retainer This retainer has an ear missing on the far right side.

Yeah that looks like the piece I am talking about, although I have not pulled my shaft off my car. I guess that is the only way to fix it!!
I do have a four speed, anyone know where I can get the retaining clip?
