Started all by itself eight days ago....(has not worked in years except intermittently a couple times....).Tommorow will be nine days...any bets on 30 ?
DOH.....you just jinxed yourself by publicly announcing that your clock is now working. I give it 1 week or 1 strategically placed pothole which ever comes first.

kdf
It's a little fast...maybe I'll get 30 days in 20...
Never touched it,honest...but I've heard that dust stops them...???
I'm hoping it still works by August 7,cause I'm entered in a car show where they judge these things...they judge documentation also,so I paid $50 bucks last April for the GM dealers invoice to compensate for the clock...points,ya know..
I just installed the quartz conversion in my clock. The video they sent with it said the slip clutch plate on the minute wheel assembly is notorius for binding up the clock. Pull it out and hold the shaft while turning the gear. If it doesn't turn freely (mine didn't) hit it with WD40. If it is still binding, slip a small screw driver under the slip clutch plate and pull it completely around the plate. This will help relieve some of the pressure. If it doesn't work the first time, try it again. I had to do this twice, but now it turns freely.

Thanks for the info...got to put a new belt in my 8 track(slips),so I can get the clock to...just got to decide..before..or after August 7...
Oil attracts dust. Dust will bind up the movement. Use contact cleaner and/or graphite.
I can't dispute the accuracy of the statement above about adjusting the speed, but mine didn't work like that...bound up too tight. I can see where it might work, but mine didn't. Regardless, there is an adjustment cam inside that shortens or lengthens the clock spring. Making the spring shorter will make the clock faster.
I just replaced mine with Quartz, as well...the second hand now "sweeps" instead of "ticking". A judge might notice that. It does keep good time, though.

I have a quartz movement and the judge easily noticed....it's one of the things they look for.

I could feel the binding as I adjusted it...ok...contact cleaner it is...
That clutch might be frozen after 30 years of intermittent use. Might have break it open and loosen things up a bit, like Buzzard said...I had to.
I'm going to pull it...but just checked....it is not running fast...before adjustment,it would gain a minute in about an hour or so...right on now...Adjustment worked Ganey......
Thanks to all for the tips/info...
.have learned more about that clock here than I ever knew...got one tape that for some reason, works in my 8 track...Boston....good show tape...ha ha

Probably to keep dust out. Sounds like you are going to be a clock expert soon.
You are right that WD40 works, usually w/o disassembly. It's just a matter of getting it started by vibration & keeping it running until it runs by itself.
While I don't care about clocks, am not a clock expert & don't have one in either hot rod, if someone has one it might as well work. Over the years I have fixed many in other cars & have not bought one or parts or disassembled any.
Here I was content as can be with a clock that was right only 2x a day. Now I want to go try to get it working. But with my luck I will try to fix it, spend 4 hrs on it and watch it will still be only right 2x a day.
Guess that is what I get for reading up on stuff!!
