Default Engine builder question..

Has anyone here had any dealings with Precision Engine Rebuilders in Houston Texas? Thier prices are pretty competitive and the features they include on thier Crate Engine are enticing.

http://www.precisionengine.com/index.html

350 /300 hp Crate 350 - $1,499.95
( 380 ft.lbs. torque )
Cast crank – GM 5.7” rods – ARP rod bolts
GM 70cc heads – 2.02”x1.60” stainless valves
Edelbrock Performer intake (Q-jet/Holley)
Speed-pro 278`-.465” lift cam (CS-1014R)

I spoke with one of thier sales reps yesterday and he specd the above engine with screw in studs and heavier valve springs for 1299.00 plus a 225.00 core charge and of course shipping.

In my conversation with him he said he would specify 4 bolt main as well for that price. These are reconditioned blocks with a max of .030 overbore. Granted the cam could be a bit more aggressive but all in all it looks like a pretty good price for what you get.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Thanks,

Their iron-headed 427/390 hp BB crate is one of the motors in the running for my small block to big block swap scheduled for early fall. I think the guy I spoke to was named Herb. About $3,500.00 including shipping($250.00) to western NY state. They do not provide spec sheets prior to building the motor.

Let me know if you hear anything about these guys, good or bad. I'll do the same.

Just because of the issues with shipping and specs like how much the crank is ground, overbore, amount the block is decked being questionable I am more prone to buy a new GM Performance Crate motor.
I spoke with Ken, and he was really well informed and nice but I still have my reservations about going with a rebuilt that I don't have any control over.

I know one of the guys on the crossfire forum just had them put in one of their motors in his 84. From what I remember, and have heard, so far he is happy with it, and the service he received...

fl_rider:

Check with The Engine Store in Winona, MN. www.enginestore.com I think. They built a 383 short block for me. They built it to my specs and were very flexable on the parts that I wanted. I checked the block when I received it, and everything was on spec, as far as clearances, etc.

Competitive pricing. Kent Grover, who I dealt with, is the owner.

In the final install stages right now. Will post dyno numbers after break in - about another month.
