We just bought our first vette. 1978 silver anniversary, 2 tone silver paint w oyster leather interior w 54K miles. The interior is great, but the paint is mottled and dull. Anyone have any hints for bringing the paint back? Sure would appreciate any help.
Thanks!
Although I have not tried it myself, a friend told me he used Meguirs 3 step system on an old motorcycle and was amazed by the results. Welcome aboard!
you can put as much wax on it as you want, put when the surface gets to that stage the best thing to do is have it cut and buffed, best thing to do is pay somone who does it all the time if you havnt done it before as you might burn through to the color,if you do it this way it will stay glossy for a long time as long as you wash and dry with VERY SOFT TERRY CLOTHS,Cosco has some yellow auto detail cloths that wont scratch the surface,I use them to wash and dry costumers cars as that is one of the things I do for a living,Darryl
I bought a new 77 Pontiac with a silver/gray two tone paint. The paint was mottled on delivery and many seen in dealer lots were the same. I heard all kind of stories explaining this, but the bottom line stayed the same. I only mention this so you don't expect more than you might be able to produce from the original paint. Corvettes may also have had this problem. Good luck!
Thanks all. We just used a Mothers clay bar on it tonight and while it is now nice and smooth, we still have a dappled car. So it may be that off to the body shop is in order. Thanks again, I am sure I will have lots of questions, but boy its fun to learn.
